El turismo y las empresas de servicios configuran la parte más importante de la economía actual del municipio.La industria y el comercio también tienen un papel relevante en la economía municipal, sobre todo, los sectores del corcho, el metal y la construcción.
La actividad agrícola se reduce a pequeñas zonas de huertas, dedicadas a hortalizas; mientras que la ganadería y la pesca son actividades residuales.
Palafrugell cuenta con tres lugares que son Bienes Culturales de Interés Nacional: la torre de Sant Sebastià y la torre de Can Mario, en la categoría de Monumentos Históricos, y el Port Bo de Calella, en la categoría de Conjunto Histórico.
