La Costa Brava es el nombre que se le da a la franja del litoral que va desde Blanes hasta Portbou, en la frontera con Francia, y que se circunscribe a la provincia de Girona, en Cataluña.
Tiene una extensión de 214 km. de costa y fue bautizada como Costa Brava por el periodista Ferran Agulló en el 1908, haciendo alusión al paisaje natural salvaje y a las caprichosas formas rocosas, a veces agrestes, abruptas y escarpadas que dibuja esta parte del litoral Mediterráneo.
Por su gran belleza, que combina su esencia marinera con los tonos verdes de la vegetación que prácticamente llega al mar, así como por su agradable clima mediterráneo, con inviernos suaves y veranos cálidos (60% de días de sol en diciembre y 75% en julio), fue el lugar elegido de muchos artistas y escritores como Picasso, Marc Chagall, Dalí o Rusiñol. La Costa Brava fue una de las primeras zonas en recibir turistas, ya desde la década de los 30, si bien el turismo de masas llegó a partir de los 60 y en 1965 se oficializó su nombre.
No obstante, La Costa Brava ha sabido preservar con equilibrio el encanto de sus pueblos de pescadores, sus calas recónditas y secretas y sus interminables playas de arena fina con el crecimiento urbanístico y turístico. La autenticidad de su gastronomía, sus numerosos y variados espacios naturales, sus viviendas exclusivas, desde las típicas masías catalanas a torres, villas, mansiones, residencias y casas modernas de alto standing, convierten a La Costa Brava en un lugar idílico para vivir todo el año, veranear o disfrutar de unas vacaciones.
