SH2830.- Sitgeshouses is proud to present the Castle of Creixell located in the province of Tarragona 40 km from Sitges and 20 km from Tarragona. Located on a hill that visually dominates the Costa Dorada coast, it enjoys privileged views of the sea and surrounding countryside. Legends say that there were secret passages leading to the beach and connecting to the defensive towers in the town. The castle offers a built surface area of 1,190m2 with 122 m2 of terrace space, in addition to an auxiliary building of 226m2 with an extremely high ceiling that housed the oil mill - the original grind stone and gears are still preserved. Architectural and archaeological references indicate that the building is built on an Iberian-Roman base of the first century and the first written references date back to 1059. The dry stone wall base on which the building stands is preserved intact. The tower overlooks and protects the access and the main entrance. The castle has numerous rooms, bedrooms, a kitchen with an outdoor terrace, a large interior convent-like courtyard featuring a Jesuit emblem engraved over the main door, a private chapel, a jail, a domed cellar, and a ground floor library room with original stones arches that opens onto the inner courtyard, a water well and rainwater cistern. The outdoor area can be recovered to used a as garden or parking area. Creixell Castle is included in the Register of Cultural Assets of National Interest of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
